Hide User Data

Buddyboss provides different ways to assist you in controlling how much privacy you wish your member to have within your platform. Depending on how you want to setup your site you can go from anywhere to showing all your members data for all to see or to lock down as minimal as possible.

Step 1: Hiding Names & Nicknames

So when your users sign up it's nice to have as many details as possible but not so much that you want to scare them off from signing up… Names are your primary go to ‘First Name’ ‘Last Name’ & ‘Nickname’ these are minimum ask in any social community platform.

Now your user has given you these details, maybe you do not want your other members to see this information so it maintains your members security and then its up to your members if they want to reveal more information to another member, similar to a dating site.

Navigate to: Buddyboss - Settings - Profiles - Profile Names

If you untick the box for the different name fields then these fields will be hidden to all except an admin user.

Step 2: Hide Other User Data

Now let's say you have more data in your users profile for your users to fill in once they are members, remember you do not want to overwhelm a user on registration with all the information you want, so try to keep the bare minimum at registration and this will help with higher conversion of new users signing up.

Now let say the added information you want your users to fill in within their profile is again great for you to collect but is sensitive or personal such as ‘age’ or ‘political views’ then we can again ask for this information and hide it or even let your member choose if they want to have it ‘Hidden’ or ‘Public’.

Navigate to: Buddyboss - Profiles - Profile Fields

As you can see here I have created a ‘Data Field Set’ (Sensitive Data) which holds some sensitive data for my users to fill in within their profile.

I would like to hide ‘Phone Number’ to make it private, this can only then be seen by themselves and an admin user.

Click Edit - on the field you would like to change the privacy options for.

As you can see on the right you can change the Visibility option to ‘Public’ ‘Connections Only’ or ‘Only Me’. Then below you can see if you want to enforce the option giving the user no control on changing this or you can allow your members to change this as they please.

You will still see all data if you are logged in as an Admin user. Please login as a subscriber level user then you will see the changes.
