In this tutorial, you will learn how to set default images for groups, to better customize your site for your brand and community. You can choose to use the default WordPress avatars (Gravatar), BuddyBoss avatars, or a custom image.

Setting the default group avatar and group cover image
You can choose to use the default WordPress avatars (Gravatar), BuddyBoss avatars, or a custom image as the default profile image of your members. To customize it:
Go to WordPress Dashboard > BuddyBoss > Settings > Groups.
In the Group Images section, in the Group Avatars dropdown list select whether to use the BuddyBoss or WordPress avatar systems. For example, select BuddyBoss from the dropdown list.
In the Default Group Avatar setting, select which image should be used for members who haven’t uploaded a profile avatar. You can upload a custom avatar image by clicking the Custom option and then click the Upload button.

In the Default Group Cover Image setting, select which image should be used for groups that don’t have a cover image uploaded already. You can upload a custom cover image by clicking the Custom option and then click the Upload button.

The Preview Cover Image section displays a live preview of the avatar and cover image, click the Browser/App button to switch between the preview on web and app.

Click the Save Settings button to update the default group avatar and cover images.

Customizing the Cover Image Sizes
You can choose to change the width and height of the group cover images, to be applied to both group headers and group directories.
Note: You must have the BuddyBoss Platform Pro (version 1.2.0 and higher) installed and activated on your site to unlock the new group cover image sizes feature.
To customize it:
Go to WordPress Dashboard > BuddyBoss Platform > Settings > Groups.
In the Group Images > Cover Image Sizes section, in the Width dropdown list select whether to use the Default or Full Width image width. For example, select Default from the dropdown list.
In the Height dropdown list, select whether to use the Small or Large image height. For example, select Small from the dropdown list.

Click the Save Settings button to update the group cover image sizes.
Note:
For Group Avatars:
The image selected/uploaded for “Default Group Avatar” is used when a group hasn’t uploaded an avatar
If “Upload Avatars” is disabled, members cannot upload group avatars
Group Cover Images
If “Group Cover Images” is disabled:
No cover image section is displayed on groups
Group organizers cannot upload group cover images
If the “Group Cover Images” is enabled:
A cover image section is displayed on groups
The Cover Image Background color is used as the background of the section
For web, WordPress Dashboard > BuddyBoss > Theme Options > Body Elements > Cover Image Background
For app, (WordPress Dashboard > BuddyBoss App > Branding > Colors > General > Cover Image Background)
Members can upload custom cover images
If “Default Group Cover Image” is set to “None“, only the background color is displayed.
